Yes, it's that time again, election time! Our community members are so confused by it, angery at it, apprehensive, excited, cool and of course the seasoned politicians are smooth!
As for me, I'm a candidate for Council - my first time. Someone I spoke to tonight said "call yourself a virgin" it breaks the ice real good, causes laughter. He suggested this because he too is a first-time candidate and this is his opener. I just might try it.
Since embarking on this journey, I've had to challenge myself. I try to approach many things in my life as challenges, and because I'm competitive by nature, it helps me, or rather encourages me to face them in order to get over them. I've had to face two challenges since beginning: the first one is to walk up to people and start a conversation (I'm an introvert, so this is a major step!); and I spoke to a crowd of people in my language! I don't normally speak Mi'gmaq, however, most people will speak to me in Mi'gmaq; I respond in English. It's been a real experience so far.

I'm giggling as I'm responding to your post. I think your ice breaker will definitely be an attention getter. I admire your "out of the box' approach to life. You meet challenges head on and I'm sure you're learning and growing. With such an attitude you'll be a real asset on the council. All the best!
I was checking the blogs this afternoon and when I came across yours, I noticed my response wasn't there. So, I'll respond again. I am so pleased that you have the courage to step outside of your comfort zone and explore new things and possibilities. Your forward thinking will be a real asset on the council... so will your sense of humor -- I love it!
I've tried twice to respond to your blog -- can't seem to connect.
I totally understand what you mean when you say that our community members are discombobulated (lol, it's a real word in the dictionary, I didn't know that). My son keeps asking when it will be all over, he's tired of the big picture signs.
Your daughter today came over and said she was at the rally where they're all yelling "Vote for me", with her hands wildly gesturing in the air. I think she was over exaggerating (like Hayden often does), but she reminded me of Richard Nixon in the 70's with his peace sign hand comments. LOL I couldn't tell her that cause she doesn't know who Nixon was, so I thought I'd share my thoughts with you.
And kudos to you for speaking Mi'gmaq. I envy you.

Thanks for your comments. I hope many people in Listuguj feel the same as you, Gail and Jenn, and elect me. hehehe.... I have a write up to go out but I am now getting obsessed with my grammer and punctuation. I will, however, finalize my write up tonight, as well as catch up on homework!
