I'm short on Time

So, I guess the post gets saved as your writing, but when you log out it gets lost! Now I have to start over, and all I was talking about was how I needed more time. More time to do all the things I want to do, but alas, I didn't learn the lesson yet! Anyway, what is time?? If I had more time, I would just do more things, because that's the way I am. It's the same as wanting more money, once we have more, we spend more and find ourselves in the same perdictament! So back to my being short on time and how does this affects technology!

Well, lately, it seems I'm doing some things twice, like this blog!

Last week's class on photography and digital storytelling was quite interesting. I love to take pictures and received a really nice digital canon rebel for Christmas. I'm still learning how to use it. But, what caught my interest was telling a story with pictures and using MS Office Picture Manager. So, people near and dear to me will know what I did. I went straight home and tried it out! And those that know me, know that I'd jump right into trying to do, getting fustrated because it wasn't working the way I wanted it, or the way its supposed to...arrggghhh.. Did I even bother to check my notes, ask for help or take a breather? Of course not! So because I'm always so pressed for time, I just left it be. Figured that I would keep trying another time. Besides, I really wanted to add it to this comment.

It was only at Monday's class that I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was using the wrong program - the Moviemaker!

Ok, Del, just slow down, read the notes and do the work. Simple....

Assistive Technology

Lately, I've been thinking about a past co-worker. My co-worker was very up-to-date on all the latest technology. I think he may be one of the first people around who was on the internet! I remember us having a conversation about about this one day, he was trying to encourage me to "surf the net", how easy it was and so on. And this was only about 14 years ago, I'm not sure if we even had a computer in our home. Besides my co-worker's knowledge of the net at the time, we was legally blind, but that didn't hinder him any way! He was successful in gaining funding to purchase a talking computer which assisted him in his many tasks. I'm sure this made his internet surfing much easier. Not only did he use his computer for surfing, he did everything on it, and it certainly asissted him with his writing. He truly was ahead of his time and he is a fine example of how assistive technology can be really beneficial.

I WebExed Today!

That's too funny! I'm making up a new language through the internet and the various things I do throughout the day. Today, I was invited to join a meeting through the internet, using WebEx. I thought it was very cool AND it was very simple to do. If I had a microphone set up and a webcam, I could have used this experience to its full potential, but since I'm a "digital immigrant" I am moving along slowly - but surely! After joining the meeting, we all engaged using the telephone and went on with our 1.5 hour meeting.

I haven't been in this course for very long, but the single biggest thing I've achieved thus far is that I am definitely more conscious of technology and wanting to read as much as I can. When I am reading my headlines for the day, that come in through my RSS feed, I make sure to check technology news. I never did that before, nor did pay any attention to what was going on around me technology wise - until now. For that, I am grateful for today!

News Article of the Day

A news article today spoke about new technology currently being developed that will enable us to scan our cheques and deposit them into our bank accounts. It further went on to comment how we may not need to go the bank anymore. Imagine! Well, I hardly every go to the bank anyway. The anchor is waiting for the technology that will output money from the computer! Yeah, now that's technology worth waiting for!

I'm learning along with my kids

The great thing about this course is that it will encourage me to explore technology as I come upon it. My son is taking a digital technology course in high school and although is an avid gamer and likes utube, he doesn't generally poke around the computer or anywhere on the net for that matter. The digitial tech course is teaching Macromedia Fireworks. Wow, what a program! I have no clue where or how to start, so I suggested to him to bring his assignments and we could figure them out together! Should be fun exploring this program and learning more about it, how it can be used at home and at work.

Hi

Hi, and welcome to my space. Glad you dropped by and hope that you enjoy your visit. This space or place, now I'm already getting it all mixed up .. will be for sharing what I, as a student of the First Nation Business Administration Certificate, will be learning from the computer course - our first in the lineup of courses. I'm excited to be embarking on a new journey of learning, with friends and co-workers, and new friends to meet too!

Blogging is a new experience for me. I've only been on Facebook for a short time and I don't really care for MSN, but have been caught on it on several occassions. I guess I'm still "old school" and reserve computers for work purposes only but will soon be learning lots of fun new things to do, such as Blogging. So, stay tuned!
